How does billing work?
Students – our Brill Streeters – are 100% on our payroll. We send you a consolidated invoice for all hours worked by all Brill Streeters who are working with you. You pay Brill Street directly, so there are no individual paychecks or 1099s to complicate bookkeeping.
-
Can we convert a student to a permanent employee, and what does that cost?
Yes, you can convert a student to permanent status. You simply pay a commission to Brill Street. If the student has worked 700 hours that commission is waived. Up to that point, the fee is prorated.
-
If a student doesn't work out can I apply the hours towards the next students' conversion time?
No.
-
How do you find your students?
We recruit through a variety of sources: career fairs, on campus events, our own website, the university job boards, and through referrals from Brill Streeters. Most importantly we've established networks within the universities of advisors, faculty members, student groups, and professors.
-
What is your screening process?
On the student side, students either respond to postings we've placed at colleges, or they apply directly through the Brill Street website (www.brillstreet.com). The applications are fed into our proprietary database, and our Talent Manager team is notified via email that we've received an application. The students are phone screened within 48 hours by a member of the Talent Manager team, and those that prove a high level of ambition and motivation are brought into the office for a personal interview. They bring a transcript from their school, and references that we can check after the screening process is completed. From there, we match their skill sets, school experience, and areas of interest to a part or full time assignment with one of our customers.
On the client side, our process is also a simple one. We execute a service agreement which outlines the basic terms and conditions of working with Brill Street. We work with you on project requirements and skill sets needed, defining the scope and estimated duration as closely as possible. And we present several candidates for you to review and select.
-
Are students only available in the summer?
No, Brill Streeters are available for short and longer-term assignments year round.
-
How many hours can students generally work?
We require students to have at least 20 hours a week available, and undergraduates typically prefer to work 20-25 hours. Graduate level students generally have more flexibility and can even work full time.
-
Is there any commitment to bring on the students if we simply consider an assignment, or interview students?
No. You are not obligated to hire any Brill Streeters; signing our contract simply sets the terms for when you do hire our students.
-
Where have you placed students?
We've worked with a wide variety of companies, in many industries and of all sizes, in the Midwest, where we are headquartered, and across the US.
-
What if we don't like a student that you place with us?
We work with you to determine what went wrong and refill the position if possible. Regardless, the student is on our payroll so you are not liable for issues such as unemployment payments, etc.

How can you assist us with our diversity initiatives?
Brill Street's ability to attract students of all backgrounds has proven to be valuable to those customers interested in a diverse workforce. Our research has shown that we have routinely accepted a talent pool that is between 30% and 40% diverse, and the nature of our recruiting patterns has produced very strong candidates with diverse backgrounds. Brill Street is committed to helping you uncover the best fit for your organization, and our Talent Managers will work closely with you to ensure we are fitting the needs of your company.

We already have an internship program in place – how can Brill Street help us?
Because Brill Streeters are W-2'd employees of Brill Street, the responsibility of liability, taxes, and insurance is owned by Brill Street. It is an opportunity for clients to be more efficient in their recruiting by letting Brill Street do the leg work. Because of our reputation and relationships with the top schools, we attract the "best and the brightest" students. Our screening process is rigorous and thorough. We function as the employer and handle all payroll, taxes and insurance. And if a Brill Streeter doesn't work out, we replace him/her. With our process, we take on the burden, and let our clients focus on putting the Brill Streeters to work to get projects and assignments successfully completed, which is the best way for companies to see the students in action. And because we don't take a fee or commission for hires upon graduation, there is no cost associated with the recruitment. Additionally, the best way to build a "downstream recruiting" program is for Brill Street to work with you to place highly educated and motivated students on your projects and assignments. This would allow us to provide the efficiency of our processes and the robustness of our team, while addressing your more strategic interests in migrating these "test driven" Brill Streeters into full–time positions upon graduation.

Why should I use Brill Street instead of a temp service or some other resource?
Two words: real talent. Brill Street isn't in the business of simply filling positions. We specialize in matching a student's true talents with specific client needs – a unique approach that produces much more gratifying results for all concerned.
