We can help F-1 visa holders get permission to work off-campus via one of the following authorizations.
CPT: Curricular Practical Training
This type of authorization allows F-1 students to participate in a paid academic internship. This is defined as employment that is related to a student's studies and is an integral or important part of his or her curriculum. It includes alternate work/study, internship, cooperative education, or any other type of internship or practicum which is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school.
OPT: Optional Practical Training
This is a temporary employment authorization that gives F-1 students an opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical work experience off campus. Employment can be undertaken for up to 29 months during and/or after the completion of an international student's academic program.
